In addition to Sparkling CBD soda flavors you've known and loved for years, Colorado’s Best Drinks is now offering two fresh sparkling water options. Like our other CBD beverages, CBD Citrus Water and CBD Hibiscus Tea are vegan-friendly, gluten free and free of preservatives. They also contain just four natural ingredients per can, zero calories and zero grams of sugar. As the warmer weather grows near, our Hibiscus Tea's summertime flavor gets more and more appealing. Read on to learn a few unique facts about the fragrant flower. Then, try our five delicious CBD drink recipes featuring Sparkling CBD Hibiscus Tea – for a (surprisingly) sweet and satisfying start to the summer season.
These lovely and aromatic flowers aren't just pleasing to the eyes and nose. The flowers and buds of the hibiscus plant can safely be eaten. In fact, hibiscus can complement a variety of cuisine – the right amount makes a sweet addition to jams, jellies and (of course) CBD beverages. It can also add dynamic flavor to traditionally savory staples, including many soups and curries.
Rumor has it that several centuries ago, Polynesian women casually adorned a sole hibiscus flower as a way to communicate their romantic status. If the flower was worn just above a woman's left ear, it signaled that she was unavailable (bringing to mind the tradition of wedding bands worn on the lefthand ring finger). A flower placed behind a woman's left ear allegedly meant that she was available and open to romantic partnership.
The Hibiscus plant is native to Asia and many regions of North America, including several southeastern U.S. States and the islands of Hawaii. Hawaii also adopted Hibiscus as their state flower (the Yellow Hibiscus, specifically) in 1988. Native Hawaiins call the yellow hibiscus “ma’o hau hele” and its scientific name is H. brackenridgeia. Many Hawaiians use the hibiscus flower for a variety of practical purposes – fashioning the plant's bark into sandal straps, sewing tools and cords to safely secure canoes.
In romantic mythological tales about Greek god Adonis and goddess Aphrodite, the hibiscus plant is used recurrently. One myth includes Adonis transforming from the Greek god of beauty to the also-stunning hibiscus flower to end a conflict between Persephone and Aphrodite. In another, he's changed into an anemone flower before his final transformation to a gorgeous Greek god.
