We based this CBD sparkling soda on our love of the wondrous watermelon, but never truly considered how powerful the seeds were too.

Watermelons have small white seeds and big black seeds. There’s a bit of confusion about the different seed types among the general public. But don’t worry- there aren’t any seeds in our watermelon CBD drink!

The difference between the seeds is maturity. Every watermelon seed starts out as a small, white seed before it becomes black - or even dotted, tan, or red. Dozens, if not hundreds, of varieties of watermelon exist, with differing flesh, rind, and seed colors.

Most American watermelons have anywhere between 200 and 800 seeds!

There are also white-seeded watermelons, and those seeds are different from the immature white ones in American varieties. These kinds of watermelons are common in the Middle East and China.

Roasted watermelon seeds

For this recipe, you will need one cup of raw watermelon seeds, one tablespoon of salt, and one cup of water.

First, gather your seeds from your watermelon and put them in a colander. Only use the black seeds (remember, the white ones are underdeveloped and inedible!).

Rinse them off and once they’re clean, spread them out on a cookie sheet and let them dry. Drying them in the sun is a great way to do it. They roast the best when they’re 100% dry.

Now put them in a frying pan on medium-high heat and keep flipping them until they're roasted. Mix the salt and water together so the salt dissolves. Pour the mixture into the frying pan and stir it every once in a while until the water completely evaporates. Let the seeds cool down before you shell and eat them!

Roasted watermelon seeds are great to throw in trail mix, bring a little baggy on a hike, keep in your car for when you’re feeling snacky, or to eat hot out of the pan!

Watermelon seed bar

For this recipe, you'll need one cup of watermelon seeds, ½ cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of water, and optional coconut oil.

First roast the seeds in a frying pan over medium heat, stirring frequently. It should take about seven minutes to completely roast them. You can tell they’re done when they turn reddish. Put the seeds into a bowl.

Now add the sugar and water into the pan and boil them until it turns into a syrup. Now put the seeds back into the pan and stir.

Brush coconut oil into a pan. Pour the syrup-coated watermelon seeds into the pan and press down.

Once it cools you can cut it into squares and serve!
