Upcycling Old Soda Cans for Your Garden
Why recycle your sparkling CBD soda cans when you can upcycle them instead?
If you have a garden, you know that the devil is in the details. That’s why we’ve put together this list of stunning ways to integrate old cans into your garden.
Gardens are a hub for wildlife. You can grow your own food. Even if you just grow flowers, it helps out the pollinators. And plants sequester carbon out of the air!
Because gardens are such a hub for nature and environmental protection, it only makes sense to include upcycled cans in the garden.
Old soda can garden labels are a great way to welcome someone into your garden and differentiate between the different gardens in your yard if you have multiple. For example, you can have an “herbs” sign and a “flowers” sign. With beautiful wooden frames to finish off the labels, they’re sure to please!
- Empty sparkling CBD soda can
- Wooden frames
- Pen and Sharpie
- Spray paint
- Hot glue
- Magic Eraser
- Metal skewers
- Scotch tape
First, spray paint your wooden frames whatever color you wish.
Now use your computer to make a word design for your garden sign. Print it mirrored.
Cut your soda can into a flat sheet. Tape the printed design to the side of the can that has print on it.
Use your pen to trace around the words, pressing really hard. Once you’ve traced around it, color inside the design, still pressing very hard. This will transfer the word onto the metal sheet.
Once you’ve finished, cut your metal to the right size and glue it with hot glue to the back of your frame once it’s fully dry.
Next, hot glue a metal skewer to the back of your can with the pointy side down. Now you can stick your completed sign in the ground!
Having a soda can herb garden is so in right now! It’s chic, creative, and easy to do. Plus as the seasons change, you can move which window your herbs are in!
- CBD beverage cans
- A can opener
- Spray paint
- Contact paper
- A white pen that’s able to write on plastic
First, take off the top of your can with the can opener. Wash it and dry it carefully and thoroughly.
Now, spray your cans however you want. Or you can leave our beautiful labels as is!
If you’re spray painting, stay outside and do it on a windless day. Use gloves you can discard, follow the directions on the spray paint can, and let it dry for at least a day.
Now cut out a shape from your contact paper. Write down the name of the herb that you want to put in that can.
Peel off the paper and carefully attach it to your can, avoiding bubbles as best you can.
Now plant your herbs and you’re ready to go!
These plant labels bring so much character to your garden! They’re cheap, durable, and lots of fun to create. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Old CBD drink cans
- Wire clothes hangers
- Wire cutters
- Needle-nose pliers
- Paper punch
- 3 in 1 corner punch
- Scrapbooking scissors
- Decorative brads in the shape of your choice
First, put your gloves on. Then cut off the bottom and top of the can. Trim up any sharp edges and lay the piece flat.
Cut out your labels. You can get really creative here! Try different shapes, use corner punches, and try scrapbooking scissors.
Now you can put on some decorative brads to add extra flair.
Use a ballpoint pen to write the plants' names on your labels, pressing down very hard on top of a stack of paper or newspaper. The name should be imprinted into the metal.
Use a paper punch to make a hole that you can hang your tag from.
Use wire cutters to cut about 7-inch long pieces of wire coat hanger. Create an "s" shape on one end with your needle-nose pliers.
Hang the label on your “s” shape and then pinch it shut. That’s it!
Garden charms are a great way to bring your garden to the next level. Especially when they’re homemade, you’ll think about the great day you had making them every time you see them. To make beautiful, unique charms to put in your garden, you’ll need:
- Empty sparkling CBD soda cans
Trace a design on paper, perhaps a butterfly or flower, a size that will fit on a soda can. Cut it out.
Cut off the tops and bottoms of your cans. Cut the side open so you can lay it flat.
Trace the shape you cut out earlier with a marker onto your soda can. Cut out the shape.
Use a nail to decorate the charm by pushing indents into it with a hammer.
Who knew you could do so much for your garden with the can from your favorite CBD drink?
Now your garden is doing even more good for the planet. Besides growing your own food and sequestering carbon, it’s also a hangout spot for some old upcycled soda cans.
